Why does Hollywood still use bulky €100,000 cameras while a €500 smartphone can already film at 4k?

You need to house a professional lens and be able to pull focus, the camera needs to not be shaky when you’re using a 200mm telephoto lens or if it’s handheld, it needs to be balanced and ergonomic to hold for long periods (try holding your phone camera at arms length for a whole day and let us know how that goes…).

An equivalent question would be “why do construction workers need to use gigantic machines when my spade can dig a perfectly nice hole?”. Your requirements are as a consumer aren’t the same as people who are making a professional movie.

I won’t go into the details about how your phone’s image is actually shitty by comparison to what you get from movie cameras… the truth is that you can get some very ‘small’ and inexpensive cameras which have a great looking image, that is nigh on identical to cameras that cost much more.
